Searching in the internet for the first two symptoms on the list below uncovered my diabetes. It turned out that nearly all of these symptoms were present, and not only that, they had been there for some time. Of course, the simplest way to check for diabetes is to go to a doctor and have your blood glucose checked, but something needs to arouse you suspicions. If you have any suspicions at all - get yourself checked: diabetes is serious, how serious will appear in my next post.
In a normal situation, blood glucose will be low on rising and five hours after eating, and at its highest 45-60 minutes after eating.
The classic symptoms of diabetes are
- excessive thirst (polydipsia)
- frequent urination (polyuria)
- hunger (polyphagia)
- unexplained weight loss
- overweight (usually in type2) – waist >40” in a male, 37” in a female
Other symptoms:
- sleep apnoea
- snoring
- sleepiness
- fatigue
- blurred vision
- odd aches and pains
- dry mouth
- dry or itchy skin
- male impotence
- thrush in a female
- poor healing of cuts
- excessive or unusual infections
- skin tags
- acanthosis nigricans (dark patches under arms, back of neck, between legs and at the back of joints)
